Training ProgramsIntroduction to Gestalt Therapy – three-hour workshop
Trainees will be active participants in an educational therapy group setting with no more that 12 students. Participants will be expected to attend 5 weekend groups (Friday 6PM – 9PM Saturday 10AM – 5:30PM Sunday 9AM – 3PM). These weekends will focus on integrating theory and practice. Trainees will experience gestalt therapy through their own process as well as being in the role of facilitator under the direct supervision of staff. The training process is experiential and gestalt theory will be interwoven throughout the course of training. In conjunction with the face-to-face experiential learning described above, students will be encouraged to read related materials and journal thoughts and feelings connected to their learning (this piece of the training is not a requirement). Students will also have the opportunity to interact with fellow trainees on-line, in a forum, which can be accessed through this website.
This first year of training provides those in attendance with a basic understanding of gestalt therapy. To truly incorporate the sustenance of this form of therapy requires a long-term commitment to study, practice and immersion into its concepts and principles. I liken the learning process of gestalt therapy to teaching someone how to swim. A person can get the general idea about swimming from reading a book and observing others doing it, but until they are in the water floundering about with the support of themselves and someone who is interested in there success; they will only be able imagine the experience of swimming.
Certification as a gestalt therapist requires full attendance and participation in years one and two intensives and may require a brief interview or simple project.
All participants in this training will have completed the 1st year intensive. The intensive will be limited to 12 students. Participants will be expected to attend 5 weekend groups (Friday 6PM – 9PM Saturday 10AM – 5:30PM Sunday 9AM – 3PM). The first three weekends of the 2nd year will have a primary focus on students facilitating one on one processes as well as group processes under the direct supervision of staff. The final two weekends will solidify prior learning and introduce students to Gestalt Therapy work with couples and families facilitated by the instructors.
These training opportunities will take place in Prescott, AZ and or Phoenix, AZ.
Site location will be determined months prior to commencement of training.*** Any and all training programs can be conducted at locations outside of Arizona. However, fees may vary and coordinating events and student attendance will require an individual or organization to take a leadership role in planning and communication with the Arizona Gestalt Institute.
